Standards Australia is an independent non-profit organisation and has for the first-time published olive oil standards in the country. The standards in Australia for olive oil have the most variation from the agencies listed so far, but the standards are viewed as some of the most stringent to be set anywhere in the world.

Following a rigorous standards development process involving multiple industry stakeholders – and almost 800 public comments – Standards Australia approved a new olive oil standard in July 2011.

The rules governing the use of this registration ensure that Australian olive products comply with the Australian Standards for Olive Oil and Olive Pomace Oils (AS5264-2011) and the Voluntary Industry Standard for Table Olives in Australia (RIRDC 12-111).
